OC Transpo: New Ways To Car
This is an excerpt from Kanata North Councillor Cathy Curry’s newsletter:
—
Now that new bus routes have been in effect for a few weeks, I have heard from a number of residents that their commutes are unreasonably long now. I have heard from others that the route changes have encouraged them to buy cars. This is not good. After meeting with one resident who represented many others, I reached out to the key route planner at OC Transpo and asked for a formal meeting to review concerns. I also spoke with Councillor Hubley and the Chair of the Transit Committee, Councillor Gower. We determined that there are issues with the new routes common to Kanata North, South and Stittsville that have to be reviewed. As was stated at our New Ways to Bus consultation at the Mlacak Centre with OC Transpo in April, there are opportunities for some tweaks to routes once we see how things are actually going. Another resident produced a very helpful PowerPoint presentation that we sent to OC Transpo for their consideration. We met with OC Transpo Staff to see what can be done. I will be working with the residents who represent the larger group of residents and will keep everyone posted. …

“… there are opportunities for some tweaks to routes.” It’s giving to take more than a few tweaks to fix the mess A New Way to Bus created.
One can only imagine what Renee Amilcar and her minions were thinking.
Another 40 ft diesel bus burned up today at the St. Laurent garage (outside) awaiting maintenance. The scary thing is that people could have been on that bus.
I know the lady who led the protests in this article – she is fed up with her commute. It used to be so quick to get downtown – 45 minutes from Kanata. Now it is pushing 1 hr 15 minutes there and longer coming home
Cathy Curry seems very laissez-faire about OC Transpo’s latest and predictable debacle. She notes “Another resident produced a very helpful PowerPoint presentation that we sent to OC Transpo for their consideration.” This comment hammers home the point that many Bulldog commenters have made regarding the value of holding public meetings, attended by city staff who actually pay attention to what residents have to say, rather than just as a formality.
How do you tweak a bus route that’s been eliminated?
Sisco. I believe the common parlance for Cathy Curry’s comment is “putting the cart before the horse”.
