Safety Cone Throwing Should Have Consequences

“When I read the story in the Citizen, I wondered if you or I pulled that kind of stunt on a public road, would we find ourselves on the front page of the Citizen or in the back of a police cruiser being interrogated for, say, vandalism? But we are not Tierney and Luloff, are we?”

The Citizen’s Mohammed Adam on councillors throwing safety cones off a road

Were we commoners doing that sort of thing, would not the police intervene?

So what are the consequences for the councillors. Just free publicity in the newspaper?

Here’s another quote from Tierney showing he understands the gravity of the incident.

“I know that brings a lot of discussion about (safety). If I can open up a lane of traffic seven or eight hours in advance of the next crew coming to move those cones, I’m just going to do it.”

Adam is right. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe should have a chat with those councillors. I’d take it a step further. They should have a talk with a police officer about the importance of safety cones. Then the police should decide what to do.

Knowing what those two did, the next time you’re driving around the east end, and that lane of traffic that was closed, is now open an hour later, but you notice traffic cones laying on the ground haphazardly, do you now chance it and take that lane?
