‘The Dumbest Trade War In History,’ WSJ

He did it. We at The Bulldog didn’t think he would do it but he did it.

That’s the level of stupidity and troubled mindlessness that is U.S. President Donald Trump. A narcissist and felon who loves a headline more than people … well, except himself. Trump will likely be forced to back down when the North American auto industry, fully integrated across Canada, Mexico and the U.S., comes grinding to a halt as parts supplier Linamar predicts.

The Wall Street Journal, not exactly a well of liberalism, called the deal “The Dumbest Trade War In History.”

Given the WSJ’s political orientation, if it calls the tariffs dumb … count on il … they’re dumb.

We’d love to give you the text of the editorial but it is behind a paywall. But The Hill summarized it so here it is its version.

“… Mr. Trump’s justification for this economic assault on the neighbors makes no sense,” the board wrote.

Writers challenged the idea that exorbitant pricing for imports and exports would urge neighboring governments to stem the flow of illicit drugs.

“White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says they’ve ‘enabled illegal drugs to pour into America. But drugs have flowed into the U.S. for decades, and will continue to do so as long as Americans keep using them,” read the Wall Street Journal op-ed.”

“Neither country can stop it.”

Also Saturday night, many Ottawa Senators fans booed the U.S. national anthem played before the game with the Minnesota Wild. Calgary fans did the same thing.

Good.

Those boos will get louder as the pain from this decision sets in … if fans can still afford to go to the games.

Maybe it would be a good idea to pull the Star Spangled Banner at sports events.

It’s doing no one any use and it’s hard to respect a country that has imposed crippling tariffs for no other reason than it can.
