The Office Is Dead: RICHARD FLORIDA
This is a short interesting video from urbanist Richard Florida, amazingly made four years ago.
Florida spotted in 2021 the phenomenon that we are only coming to terms with now … the empty office, particularly in the downtown core.
But what is happening with the decline of the office, is that people, particularly young people, are looking for places to meet and work remotely.
So administrators such as Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, who ordered city staffers back to the office, are standing in the way of history and what people want. And generally, when large numbers of people want something, they get it.
Creative people like remote work and if they can’t find it at Ottawa City Hall, they’ll get it someplace else. And city staff is poorer for it.
