In the election that Kathleen Wynne lost, she had promised a greater share of the gas taxes to cities. The city of Ottawa, then under Jim Watson, had that amount included in the budget for about 3 years as owing from the Doug Ford government. So the city has a bit of a history having election promises as a firm budget item
Gee, Mike, I’m just trying to decide which made him look more stupid and, dare I say, naive. Was it the so-called Fairness Campaign or his reaction to this non-announcement?
Either way, he still hasn’t plugged his $36M budget hole for 2025 so he’s still in trouble. Do you suppose that he hasn’t realised yet that this money only appears next year, not this year? That is, of course, if it appears at all – which we know won’t happen …
Maybe nobody’s explained to him the consequences of Trudeau resigning and an imminent election call.
Sorry, Mike, did I hear you say Mark Sutcliffe is going to look stupid? I believe the adjective for which you’re searching is “stupider”. ‘Nuff said.
Actually, it is a great indirect attack on the broken Ontario “Progressive” Conservative party.
Doesn’t it put Doug on his heels to commit publicly to match the funding, like he said he would do if the federal government came to the table?
Richard, But they didn’t, which is the whole point. The federal Liberals gave the city not one cent and promised that maybe they would give the city money if re elected. Which objectively looks highly unlikely
