U.S.: Want Respect? Show Respect

Last night, at the Four Nations Face-Off hockey tournament in Montreal, the announcer asked the Canadian crowd to show respect for the national anthems of Finland and the United States.

Sure, happy to oblige.

Just as soon as U.S. President Donald Trump stops calling Canada the 51st state, the prime minister “governor”, says he has declared economic warfare, breaks the North American free trade agreement, lies about the amount of illegal drugs coming to the U.S. through Canada, pulls out of the Paris climate accords and the World Health Organiation.

The Montreal crowd booed the U.S. national anthem anyway.

If the U.S.-run NHL, which administers the tournament, wants fans to respect the U.S. national anthem, perhaps the foremost citizen of the U.S., the president, should respect the country to his north.

If Americans elect a rude, criminal, disrespectful clown as their president, expect your national anthem to be treated as Trump treats Canada and Americans have treated their own country.

An alternative to booing the “Old Glory” is to remain seated with your hat on then rising, removing your cap, and, for those who can, singing O Canada.

    either option works for me
