What Does City Enhanced-Security Cost?
The city has a $36-million plug figure in the middle of its operating budget. The operating budget that is required, by regulation, to be balanced.
A prudent councillor or 24 plus a mayor might want to know how much will this enhanced security cost? A prudent councillor or 24 plus the mayor might want to know where are the plans on coming up with these incremental forever costs. What “essential” services will be reduced to cover these costs?
At issue is whether there is even a prudent councillor, let alone 24 plus the mayor. At issue is whether anyone will have the temerity to ask those questions and then tell the public what the answers are. If for no other reason than to break into the unfamiliar territory of open, transparent and accountable government.

A reasonably educated guess. Equipment for 2 screening stations 300 to 400 K Staff if only working 8 to 10 hour days 4 per station at $75 K ea plus benefits say another 400 K per year.?City had best find close to another MILLION for this? Just dig the deficit hole a bit deeper? Contract it out?
Add in yearly maintenance cost.

Better still, don’t do it. We’re destroying city hall as a people place. I worked out of the Citizen bureau there for seven years and I saw one serious security problem.
Unlikely scanner et. al will stop a serious intruder.

Hey Bruce: my young self received some great worldly advice. When you’re in a hole… stop digging.
