When Do They Target Satirists And Journalists?

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out — because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out — because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out — because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.

— Martin Niemöller

With what has happened to comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, this quote comes to mind.

These words are from a German pastor who felt guilty about remaining passive as terror took over Nazi Germany.

Today’s cancel culture is getting out-of-hand.

Perhaps the two comedians above should have been cautioned before they were dismissed? Maybe they were. It’s hard to know. Did their words merit dismissal?

This is how democracy declines and we are seeing it south of the border. What might happen before the next U.S. election … if there is one? There are troops on the streets of Washington.

We must take care this does not happen in Canada.

When do the satirists and journalists join the list above?

If you don’t speak out, you see what happens. Don’t let the lies go unchallenged.

    Ken, timely indeed.

Low ratings, losses millions per year. Cancelled by a woke company Disney/ABC and yet no word when they came for Carlson, Gina Caranno, Roseanne Barr. Selective indignation is at hand… unlike Kirk, Kimmel and Colbert haven’t passed at the point of an assassins bullet.

I have been thinking about the Charlie Kirk issue of late, since I heard his sparring partner in many debates, Hassan Piker, speak favourably of Kirk’s approach to discussing any issue even though he (Piker) usually held an opposing view. The value Kirk added was he encouraged open discussion. He didn’t care if people agreed with him or not, I believe what he really wanted was for people have the opportunity to talk openly. While Donald Trump professes to having loved Charlie Kirk, the fact that people like he and Pam Bondi are now trying to shut down free speech is likely something Mr Kirk would likely have disagreed with.
