Blame Politicians For Bad Transit: QUOTABLE

“We change executives and nothing works. We introduce new measures like New Ways to Ride to improve service, only to make things worse . Our transit managers have become good at explaining problems, not solving them. The transit mess has become a tiresome embarrassment we should no longer stand for. So, let’s talk transit in this election, and use our vote to create the transit service we deserve.”

Mohammed Adam in the Ottawa Citizen

Adam in his opinion piece doesn’t give us many new arguments but says what should be obvious but has been lost on residents.

Ottawa’s bus and rail system is a mess bordering on failure. Who is responsible for oversight for this civic catastrophe?

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and Ottawa City Council. Adam essentially says that if they are not doing the job, vote for their opponents. Our transit service is getting worse than better. That’s unacceptable in most things and that certainly includes transit.

Two comments. 1) Mr Adam states “Our transit managers have become good at explaining problems, not solving them.” In fact, our transit managers have NOT become good at explaining them, rather they have become good at making excuses and talking around the issues. 2) Later on he states “vote for their opponents”, which means we’ll end up with a city council full of inexperienced representatives sitting around the council table. Unfortunately this “solution” provides little to no value. In fact, it appears that democracy in Ottawa is not working.
