What if you held a press conference and nobody came?

Would what happened there not be news if no media showed. Or maybe it would be news but not in the news media. In other words, if a tree fell in the woods and no one was there, would it still make a sound?

But before we get buried in philosophy, perhaps a discussion of what happened might be in order.

A news release went out late Monday to the media that Mayor Mark Sutcliffe would be holding a media event the next morning. No topic or background was in the release. Just that the mayor would stand up and say something … probably.
