Tierney Dances Around Traffic-Cone Issue
Beacon Hill Cyrville Councillor Tim Tierney has been doing quite the soft shoe since he was pictured in a Citizen photo throwing a traffic cone around a construction site over traffic problems in the east end.
Here is Tierney’s side of the story from his newsletter:

I also spoke … on CBC Ottawa Morning with Rebecca Zandbergen. You can listen to the interview here. We discussed the LRT construction in the East end.
As I mentioned in last week’s email, the photo in question was staged in a non-active construction area, and no cones were removed during the shoot.
I’ve been using this opportunity to reinforce an important public message about staying alert around road construction and watching out for our hard-working construction crews. I’ve received great feedback from people who heard the interviews on CBC, CFRA, and even CTV National — and I’m glad to say it’s helped raise awareness, especially in the East End.

These traffic pylons are placed for public safety and traffic control. Interfering with them can create dangerous conditions for everyone on the road.
Finally, a tip of the hat to Richard Holder and the construction team for responding so quickly with a new plan that better informs the public. You may have already noticed: a large number of inactive cones have now been removed. Thank you!
There’s clearly been continued interest in this, so I want to take this opportunity to reinforce the importance of staying safe and respectful around construction zones. And while we’re on the topic — big thumbs up to the construction crews working through this blistering heat.
We’ve got a responsibility not just to manage what’s in front of us, but to think beyond it. That means asking questions early, protecting space while we still can, and being transparent every step of the way. Whether it’s long-term projects like a Ring Road or short-term disruptions from transit construction; residents deserve clarity, accountability, and a real plan.

A clear pattern of behaviour has emerged for Councillor Tim Tierney.
A couple of elections ago he ‘propositioned’ his sole opponent. A suggestion by Tierney that he would make a substantial donation to the charity of his opponents choice in exchange for the opponent withdrawing from the election. A transgression for which he was found guilty and suffered absolutely no repercussions.
Instead of focusing on the critical issues within the mandate of municipal council, issues like effective public transit or supporting a balanced budget he promoted a plan for school children to name snowplows.
Earlier this month he and Councillor Matt Luloff staged an intervention on some traffic cones. For which he has clearly had his horoscope read to him. Thus the round of media sessions. Not to apologize for his transgressions. Not to tell people they should not follow his ill considered lead. No. Merely to expand on why he did what he did.
The pattern? A variant of “ready, fire, aim”. In this case, ‘call the media, speak/act, think – or not’.
The message from the this stunt by Councillor Tierney is that city staff will only act responsibly if they are publicly humiliated. Up to that point neither Richard Holder nor anyone on his staff spent any time, let alone effort considering the impact of their inactions on the residents.
