Leiper Condemns Too Small Lansdowne Rink

Mayoral candidate Jeff Leiper’s campaign is gearing up after a slow start.
Here he shows that the women’s hockey team The Charge are out-drawing the capacity of the new Lansdowne event centre.
From X:
Here’s the truth: last night’s Ottawa Charge game sold out with 8,500+ fans, yet the new Lansdowne arena will seat only 5,500. A lack of transparency and consultation, even with key partners like the PWHL, shows that opening up City Hall will lead to better outcomes for our city. pic.twitter.com/XPprt6esxg

The city is paying for the arena, yet its input was as effectively ignored by OSEG. Not unlike how the city ignores the input from residents. Does the irony sting Councillor Leiper?
Ron:
It’s worse than that.
Because the city (and in this case OSEG) doesn’t listen to the public, they make mistakes.
Better to have a million people scrutinizing a project like Lansdowne or light rail than a few bureaucrats who have proven themselves to be faulty in major ways. Witness light rail. A $6.4 billion project that won’t be repaired permanently for three more years … if the repairs work.
It’s very discouraging to see faulty people not bright enough to listen to the public which is a critical part of their jobs.
If they were smart, they would listen. I think the reader can finish the line of thought.
Listening to the public is the most important thing city hall can do. It doesn’t.
