Development Man Leiper Disses Developers: CHANGE THING

Here are notes on the city mayoral campaign from Bulldog editor Ken Gray as it progresses to the Oct. 26 voting day:

July 16, 2026: Reported from a resident of a downtown community, some campaign workers for mayoral candidate Jeff Leiper are walking around the core telling people that Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is too close to the developers. That might be true but they forget to mention that Leiper is the chairman of the city planning committee. It doesn’t get any tighter than that. Furthermore, Leiper and the development community share the same goal … intensification. The developers want profits and Leiper thinks this will mitigate climate change … you know, less commuting. What Leiper’s people are trying to do is tell voters what they want to hear. Core voters hate intensification. The problem is that intensification puts more pressure on ancient sewage pipes that can’t handle that much volume. Consider this while you mop up your basement floor after the recent deluge on July 1. A little knowledge goes a long way.
