20-Minute Council Meetings Irresponsible: THE VOTER

The City of Ottawa should bring back the detailed council and committee minutes so you can follow the rationale behind decisions and also hold people accountable.

Aside from the benefits in the here and now, it also makes it possible to see the historic treatment of issues over time. Sometimes when you see the earlier discussions of an issue, you might lose or gain a need to bring it back to the table.

Those meetings should be a place for healthy debate and discussion held in public. Decisions shouldn’t be made in the back rooms at Ottawa City Hall.

I was stunned to tune in to Wednesday’s council meeting and see it run from call to order to adjournment in less than 20 minutes. That’s not responsible government. Particularly when you are pretty sure that at least half the people in the room have in all likelihood not read the report that they just voted on.

We, the citizens of Ottawa, are being abused by this Mayor and Council. The province definitely has to step in and take control of the clown show we are experiencing.
