What is motivating Jim Watson? Why is he attempting to restore his reputation.
It’s a reputation that is rightfully in tatters. What with the provincial light-rail inquiry identifying him as a high-profile participant (dare I say leader?) of the egregious malfeasance that was designed to withhold information from council. To prevent council from fulfilling its statutory obligations of oversight.
Does he want to get some city asset named after him? He has a history of offering that kind of favour to those who supported him. Is he looking for a quid pro quo from the current mayor?
Is he still chasing some government appointment? An appointment that is not possible unless the PMO perceives that he has paid his penance and has been forgiven by the general populace.
With a federal election in the next year-and-a-half, is Watson looking for the Liberal nomination in an Ottawa riding area? His home riding of Ottawa West-Nepean is held by a low-profile Liberal MP, Anita Vanderbeld. Does he want to displace her, or is he looking another Ottawa area riding to represent the Liberals?
With a provincial election about two years out, is he thinking of taking a run at Chandra Pasma, the NDP MPP who represents his local riding?
My cynical view of Watson is that everything he does has an ulterior motive.

Hey Ron. Let’s suggest he run in the Carleton riding in the next federal election against Pierre Poilievre. I’d love to see slim Jim and his entourage knocking on doors, handing out carrot muffins.
Ron , The Night Mayor job is closer than any you have mentioned. He could be eying that as a stepping stone.
I agree with your view of his ulterior motives and would add that a look at his past is proof that he is skilled at playing the long game.
The Night Mayor role represents an interesting opportunity for Watson, Been There. I recall that immediately after insisting that the LRT be launched prior to meeting the pre-launch testing requirements, Watson hopped on a flight to Amsterdam, to learn more about that city’s night life.
He’s testing the waters, needs to know if he’s still relevant.
Do you think his voter base is still there? Does he believe his vote base is still there?
