Hill Calls On Public To Fight Sprung Structures

Barrhaven West Councillor David Hill’s has updated information and detailed reasons for opposing City of Ottawa plans to build at least two sprung structures to house asylum seekers and refugees, and he appeals to citizens now to contact Mayor Mark Sutcliffe to support finding alternatives to the plan.

And he includes this update: “Many community leaders, notably including the Alliance to End Homelessness support our position. “

And this: “What I am saying is that the drastic modification to our current homelessness policy to establish a communal tent shelter system is inappropriate. I don’t want it for Barrhaven and I don’t want it for the city. It is not dignified. It is not fiscally prudent.”

And just a reminder, a lot (currently all trees and green space) at the very busy intersection of Innes Road and St. Laurent Boulevard in Alta Vista is one of the top three sites being considered (and would be expected to be in place by the end of next summer) and the site has been fully supported by Alta Vista Councillor Marty Carr.
Three councillors voted against the sprung structure option at council: Hill, Barrhaven East Councillor Wilson Lo, and Orleans South-Navan Councillor Catherine Kitts.

To date, all that is known about any other planned site is that it is expected to be built in Barrhaven with no other details shared yet by the city.

Are these the same councillors in favour of 40 story buildings in heritage areas against heritage community leaders and citizens recommendations?

I will save you the search effort on the pro-development votes , yes – they all voted in favour of private interest- massive development approvals outside their ward.

I still have troubles taking Councillor (used loosely) Hill serious after his immature and disrespectful antics during the last elections.

Bringing refugees and asylum seekers into a country like Canada, …..where it is necessary to have decent housing for 8 months of the year,….where there is already an affordable housing shortage, …… where there is a shortage of family doctors and medical services……IS CRIMINAL..
    TENTS WON’T DO IT.
We have many Canadian citizens we cannot house so to bring in more is the height of stupidity.

We send money overseas as aid……then we BRING in people here as well.
DO ONE OR THE OTHER BUT NOT BOTH

WE ARE 40,000,000 PEOPLE AND WE CANNOT SUPPORT THE WHOLE WORLD OF 8,000,000,000 PLUS SUPPORT ALL THE POLITITIANS AND ELITES THAT RIP US OFF.
