Why Won’t City Address ByWard Market? PATTON

While I agree dangerous portions of the city should be “fixed”, the new Nightmare seems to have determined the Byward Market is THE PLACE. I can think of a couple of other vibrant areas within the city that should come under consideration: Elgin Street and Sparks Street. Elgin Street would be a bit more difficult to navigate because of vehicular traffic, but it could be closed down nightly from, say, 7 PM until 1 AM. Sparks Street, on the other hand, is already set up for pedestrian traffic only. Lots of bars and restaurants already exist on the street, it’s wide enough for buskers to show their stuff, and residents wouldn’t complain because it’s not really a residential area. Rather than trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, maybe another approach should be considered, something Ottawa is not known for.
