Sprung Structure Decision Not Final: Wilson Lo
Barrhaven East Councillor Wilson Lo says the City of Ottawa can step back from its purchase of sprung structures for the homeless and refugees:
This is a question posed to Lo by Your Applewood Acres (& Beyond) Neighbours, a volunteer community group that acts as a watchdog on civic decisions, to Lo.
City Council has approved the sprung structure plan. Can that decision be revisited or delayed?
“Technically speaking, city council approved using sprung structures as an option, but the needle can still be moved to another option if it provides better return on investment and living conditions for the asylum seekers/refugees. Given the engagement from relevant stakeholders over the last month, including our local MP and MPP, businesses, residents, and those with expertise in the housing/social service sectors, we are hopeful to do just that. We’ll be working hard throughout the summer on those efforts. Depending on how far the sprung structures get in the process, there will also be a public consultation opportunity, likely in the planning process.”

Current public consultations are going to be like Lansdowne: online with only one hour for the public input, one question, then mike is shut off (no clarification permitted when the question is avoided). The consultations should only take a few meetings and call them done!
