The City Gets Snow Right …

Now this is the sort of thing that the City of Ottawa should be doing with our tax money.

Getting volunteers to shovel snow for seniors has numerous benefits.

It helps out the elderly;

It is one more thing that helps keep the elderly in their home where they are happy rather than being unhappy in senior housing;

It takes pressure off our crowded senior housing facilities;

It helps keep an eye on vulnerable seniors who can get in trouble in their homes;

It helps combat ageism … talk with seniors proves seniors are people, too … this is the one ‘ism’ that doesn’t seem to get traction among the politically correct crowd;

It makes seniors feel good and volunteers feel good.

Now you can make an argument that this is a program that the city should be doing with our tax money but the city has its priorities such as building a luxury light-rail line that doesn’t work, spend half a billion dollars on a Lansdowne 2.0 that won’t work or building a luxury central library in the internet age.

How can you argue with those things?

This is part of a release from the City of Ottawa:

Volunteer opportunities: Be a Snow Angel!

Consider becoming a Snow Angel! This program encourages residents to assist elderly neighbors or those with disabilities by clearing snow or ice from their driveways, steps, or walkways. For more information on the Snow Angel Program, visit Ottawa.ca.
