Menard’s post on X indicates that he continues to fail to grasp a couple of basic elements.
Property taxes are a significant element of the costs incurred by landlords, big and small. Costs that get passed on to renters. Higher tax increases now lead to higher rent increases.
He does appear to get that lower tax increases eventually lead to reduced levels of service. Which services? We will have to wait and see. But the good Councillor might keep in mind that he has supported the decisions to keep the rate of property tax increases below inflation for a number of years now. The cumulative impact being the fiscal crisis the city finds itself in.
All of the above is based on a combination of logic and basic arithmetic. Perhaps Wikipedia should leave the recent edits to Ottawa City Council in place.
