They could build an incinerator near the OC Transpo electric bus garage and use the energy they create to charge those buses. Two problems solved in a single project!
Build an incinerator and convert it to electricity
I like the waste to energy model, we go from 3 bag maximum to 3 bag minimum
The cost of additional staff to Manage and police this over 20 years is the same as building a new dump. Seriously! And on top of the new staffing costs, the next city garbage contract will require any new bidder to use green technologies for the trucks, at a much higher cost. Note there’s only one place where trucks can fuel natural gas, if that is deemed an acceptable fuel. The city is seriously looking at incredibly expensive electric garage trucks, but haven’t looked at the axle weight of these trucks which are much higher than the roads can take, according to the axle weight limits that the city publishes. Just crazy incompetence
This whole conversation around this topic is hilarious. I’ll get skewered for this, but perhaps we need to examine why we produce so much garbage, and find ways to reduce it.
But it won’t happen, because that requires thinking and effort. Consumption + convenience takes precedence over everything else.
While we’re at it, why don’t we stop our recycling program. It is a myth, that makes people feel good. 90+% plastic ends up in landfill anyway; think of the money we would save if we didn’t recycle!
