Sprung Structures: Respect Councillors, Public: MULVIHILL

Who exactly is running the City of Ottawa? Serious question.

A report released by city staff identifies the new site for a sprung structure being 1645 Woodroffe Ave., near the Confederation Education Centre in Nepean. The second chosen site, to be used if needed, is at 40 Hearst Way in Kanata.

Barrhaven is out of the mix most likely because of councillors David Hill and Wilson Lo being made aware of the locations chosen and their steadfast representation of their respective wards.

Unfortunately, it seems that advance notice of the change in locations for the sprung structures wasn’t provided to the Knoxdale-Merivale Councillor Sean Devine or Kanata South Councillor Allan Hubley. Surprise.

Staff recommendations, especially for issues this important, must be brought to councillors’ attention. Public participation sessions for the affected ward(s) must be coordinated before a report is prepared and made public. It is the respectful thing to do unless, of course, council has turned over all decision-making power to staff to save them from doing the heavy-lifting.
