  1. Closely Watching says:

By the turn of the decade 25% of our population will be over 80.

Our project population is 1.4 million…over 250,000 seniors will need our support.

    Are we ready?

Bruyere cannot do it alone and after COVID who would move into a commercial LTC.

    CW,

Unfortunately, many of us will have no choice about going into a for-profit LTC if that time comes. Unless you are able to privately fund the nursing or other care you need so you can stay at home, you’ll be headed to an institution of some sort. Not-for-profit beds are few and far between and they all have waiting lists.

In addition, if you are in hospital, are ready to be discharged and can’t live independently but there isn’t space in the LTC of your choice, the province has mandated that you are to be sent to any LTC that has space or else you will be billed $400 per day for your hospital bed. As I understand it, the majority of LTC admissions come directly from a hospital stay rather than from their homes.
