City Can’t Get Press Releases Out On Time

Do things move slowly at Ottawa City Hall? Well sometimes.

Below you see a City of Ottawa press release telling of future dates of closures and construction in the Highway 417 – Pinecrest Road interchange area. The document was released at 9:34 a.m. on Thursday, July 16.

Just one problem. Many of the events have already occurred or already started. Kind of late, useless information in many cases.

Interesting to discover how many people work in city media relations and why this release was so late. Mayor candidate Jeff Leiper says he wants to do something about media relations if he is elected. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe … what will you be doing about this? The Pinecrest and area construction has already cost you much political support due to 25-minute traffic delays. This release compounds it and reads like an excuse. The rain caused us to be late. And did the dog eat your homework?

The city is so slow it can’t even get its press releases out on time.

“Jeff Leiper says he wants to do something about media relations if he is elected.” Hey, Mark Sutcliffe promised to determine the root cause of the LRT derailment! And 4 years later – Nada. So Mr Leiper, please don’t make us guess, “What’s the plan Stan?”
