Cumberland Library Turns 25

Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is extending an invitation to the local community to celebrate the 25th anniversary of OPL’s Cumberland branch on Saturday, October 19. The 25th anniversary is a notable milestone and an opportunity to recognize 25 years of dedicated service to the community.

Cumberland branch is a spacious facility that houses and provides a wide variety of collections including musical instrument lending. The branch organizes free public programs for a diverse range of age groups and interests and offers unique resources such as a VHS conversion station and secondhand book sales at The Bookworm, a popular shop run by the volunteer Friends of Ottawa Public Library Association. The Cumberland branch is a warm and welcoming space where people can connect with literacy, culture, resources, services and engage with one another. 

For this special occasion, attendees can enjoy a range of family-friendly activities throughout the day, starting at 10 am, including: 

·                Magic show at 10 am 

·                Storytelling and music from 11 am to 12 pm 

·                Official remarks and cake cutting starting at 1 pm 

·                Face painting, crafts, LEGO, and history displays from 11 am to 2 pm 

·                Rag & Bone Puppet Theatre’s performance of “Hat Trick” at 2 pm 

·                Cumberland Branch History Jeopardy at 3:30 pm 

The celebration will begin with official remarks and a cake cutting from 1 pm to 2 pm. Special remarks will be delivered by Matt Luloff, Chair of the Ottawa Public Library Board and City Councillor for Orléans, and Sonia Bebbington, OPL’s Chief Librarian & CEO. Light refreshments will follow.
