  1. The Voter says:

Who picks up the costs – and they are substantial – of the necessary infrastructure? More paramedics means more ambulances, stations, operating costs such as gas and maintenance. Is the province offering to pay half of those costs as well as salaries or are we on the hook for it? Is this permanent funding or just to get us through the current crisis?

  2. The Voter says:

Forgot a biggie – what strings are attached to the funding? Sometimes they can make it more costly, financially and otherwise, than doing without the “free” money. We may have no choice but we should know what the conditions are before jumping aboard.

  3. Diane Zarnke says:

    If we need paramedics…..GET PARAMEDICS
AS FOR MONEY……CUT BUDGETS FOR OTHER CRAP AND NON ESSENTIALS LIKE EXPENSE ACCOUNTS, TRAVEL ACCOUNTS ……ANY FRILLS, WASTE AND OTHER NONESSENTIALS

WE ARE TOO FOCUSED ON STUFF COSTING MILLIIONS AND NOT ENOUGH ON THE “”””NEEDS”””OF HUMANS.

  4. Ron Benn says:

The city is failing, and I do stress that term, to meet its obligations to provide emergency medical services (ambulance). It is long past time for the city to stop blaming anybody but themselves (the hospital emergency desk check in staffing) and meet its statutory/regulatory obligations. So, if the province is offering a half price deal, even if the half price is well under half of the fully loaded costs (see The Voter’s initial comment) take it and get on down the path.

As Diane so eloquently put it, the money is there. The problem is that the city has decided to spend too much of the budgeted $4.x billion in operating costs on “nice to have” and not enough on ‘must do’. Along the lines of those who complain, from the comfort of an all inclusive beach resort, whilst admiring their latest tattoo, that they can’t afford the rent.
