Fresh ideas come from people who are prepared to think outside their highly constrained, self constructed boxes. Thus the lack of fresh ideas coming from council or staff.

Ron. If councilors spent less time working on their cutesy facebook pages and more time doing research they would, in my mind, provide some value to the city. For example, potholes are fixed using using a mixture of stone aggregates and cold patch asphalt, a combination that lasts for 3, maybe 6 months. Why isn’t some councilor working with city engineers to develop a better solution? They could be talking to cities outside Canada that have similar weather patterns to ours and asking how they have addressed the issue and how successful their efforts have been.
