Jeff Leiper Is Remarkable: THE VOTER

So it’s remarkable that empty trains can run up and down a closed track.

Does Kitchissippi Councillor Jeff Leiper even know that the word “remarkable” works at both ends of the spectrum? Things can be remarkably good or remarkably bad and, by using it, he leaves the option open to the reader to interpret in the way that is true instead of the way his wishful thinking wants it to be.

It would have been truly remarkable in the positive sense had the line to Orleans opened on time, i.e. several years ago; had Phase 1 opened on-time and on-budget; had it managed to deliver the promised service and been reliable; had politicians and transit management told Ottawa residents the truth on myriad issues; had the train not fallen apart so many times. Unfortunately, we have been given remarkably negative experiences from the get-go in relation to the LRT. Even those few things that looked like positives later turned out to be mirages.

What is remarkable is that politicians, and Leiper is far from the only one, still think they can serve up aspects of the rotten-to-the-core LRT and expect the residents of Ottawa to stand up and applaud. Does he not realize that, when we read this kind of statement, we immediately append something like “I wonder how long before it goes wrong?” to it.

No intelligent person in Ottawa believes the bumph coming out of the City any more.

    The Voter
Can you knock off your infatuation with Jeff Leiper. Whether it is related to the failed LRT, the purchase of O.C. Transpo electric coaches, the push for housing intensification, Lansdowne 2.0, the orientation of Jeff Leiper’s Go-Pro Bike Cam, Leiper becomes the target of your hostility. Leave Leiper lost in Westboro and prepare the tar & feathering for the real villans. The tag team of Watson & Sutcliffe either originated or perpetuated the above city crisis and the accompanying debt associated with the gross mismanagement of Developer town, Ottawa.

With respect, isn’t Leiper the chairman of the planning committee?

    cheers
