Lo, Hill Hung Out To Dry On Tent Release

For those engaged on this breaking news issue, see the CTV story about information made available just minutes before Barrhaven Councillors Wilson Lo and David Hill.

They were about to begin their 7 p.m. zoom meeting (with 200 participants) to share information on potential sprung structure plans for their ward (which were on a shortlist) to house asylum seekers. The councillors had no advance notice that the city would release their conclusions about the top two site locations today and were “on the fly” during the meeting, as were participants.

Based on the report released by city staff, the No. 1 site for a sprung structure is now at 1645 Woodroffe Ave., adjacent to the Confederation Education Centre in Nepean.  The second chosen site, to be used if needed, is at 40 Hearst Way in Kanata.

While their ward is no longer on the list for a tent, Lo and Hill say they will remain engaged with the issue and will continue to raise questions about the city’s decision to use a temporary shelter versus something more permanent.

Not surprising really. The Jim Watson shadow isn’t far from the City, is it? Councillors who rocked the boat in his day were punished one way or another or kept out of the loop. Shades of Diane Deans and Rick Chiarelli!

The Watson Club were quite ruthless in their control of information and privileges and it seems the Sutcliffites are catching up. How do you know you’re getting close to something that Central Command doesn’t want you to know, do or talk about? They come after you and, unfortunately, there’s not a heck of a lot you can do to stop them.

It’s power games, not democracy, and a mini-version of how we see people deal with their “enemies” elsewhere. When people resort to these kinds of tactics. it’s often an indication that they know they can’t win any other way so decency and integrity go out the window to be replaced by skullduggery.

Voter – your comment hits the nail directly on the head.

Councillors who dare to attempt to live up to their statutory obligations regarding the oversight of city staff need to be put in their place. How dare they!
