LRT Fix Unfinished, Closing Extended

I am writing to provide an update on planned maintenance work that has been underway on O-Train Line 1 over the past few weeks, requiring temporary weekend and late-night service adjustments to O-Train Line 1 service.
During the scheduled maintenance period of October 19 through November 3, Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) successfully completed ballast work primarily between Hurdman and Tremblay stations. Additionally, the City’s Infrastructure and Water Services Department (IWSD) continued the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) inspection of St-Laurent Station. Inspection work in the pedestrian tunnel is ongoing but will not impact Line 1 service.
Unfortunately, RTM was not able to complete all of the required rail grinding work. We have worked collaboratively with RTM to plan for the completion of this work as soon as possible and with minimal impacts to customers. We have identified two days when service adjustments will be required.
On Thursday, November 7:
· O-Train Line 1 will close early between Tunney’s Pasture and Hurdman stations at 11 pm.
· R1 bus service will run between Tunney’s Pasture and Hurdman stations for the remaining service hours.
· O-Train Line 1 will continue to run between Hurdman and Blair stations.
On Sunday, November 10:
· O-Train Line 1 will run between Tunney’s Pasture and uOttawa stations all day.
· R1 bus service will run between Rideau and Blair stations all day.
· Shuttle bus service will run between Cyrville and St-Laurent stations, and between Lees Station and Mackenzie King Bridge.
Full Line 1 service at all stations is planned to resume at the start of service on Monday, November 11.
Completing the planned rail grinding work is key in supporting the long-term reliability and sustainability of O-Train Line 1. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by these additional service adjustments, and we thank our customers for their patience during the temporary closures.

They better hurry up and get this done. If they don’t, they’re going to be coming up against the closures for regular winter maintenance and repairs plus the fixes they’ll have to put in place due to unplanned calamities that could require closing of the system.
It doesn’t do to get behind on things in an environment that is never functioning in a timely manner. Remember that in January or February or March or whenever they launch the Trillium Lines, they will begin their own functionality nightmare and will require shutting down and passenger diversion. Then it will be the turn of the eastern and western legs of the Confederation Line to have their launches and start malfunctioning.
It will be neverending and, if they start dropping balls when they’re juggling all the maintenance and repairs, the whole system could come tumbling down.

Hopefully all goes according to OC and RTM’s collaborative plan.
Just in case OC transpo has forgotten, there will be a large ceremony Monday November 11 that will entail many early street closures. The Remembrance Day ceremony prompted this reminder from the city.
“If you plan on attending the National Remembrance Day Ceremony or will be in the downtown core, be sure to plan ahead. The following streets will be closed from 7 am to 2 pm on Monday, November 11 due to the ceremony…”
Does CN or CP close for “rail grinding” or is this a unique to OWE SEE and the LRT. Do other LRT systems need Rail Grinding on as regular a basis (3 or 4 times a year?) as Ottawa or is this part of the temporary “FIX” What causes the ongoing need for “rail grinding” How frequent can rail grinding take place before the rails MUST be replaced?
Look at how sharply the Confederation line s-turns between Hurdman and Tremblay stations.
It’s a basic design flaw that will forever sentence the LRT to a state of perpetual “repair”.
