NIGHTMAYOR: Sutcliffe Is Upset, We Are Too

Mayor Mark Sutcliffe is disappointed that the media is calling his new nightlife commissioner the “nightmayor”.

Well you know, Your Worship, we’re a bit disappointed, too.

  • We’re disappointed that the $6.4 billion light-rail system is so unreliable that people are voting with their feet;
  • We’re disappointed that two years into your mandate, we don’t see a plan to fix LRT;
  • We’re disappointed the bus and train system has been decimated;
  • We’re disappointed that our wasted $6.4 billion is being used on a system that is horribly late;
  • We’re disappointed that the city is awash in construction, its dirt and constant detours because the line is late;
  • We’re disappointed you went ahead with a plan to fix light rail without knowing the cause of the problem;
  • We’re disappointed we’re waiting three years to find the root cause or causes of the train derailments and the fix resulting from them;
  • We’re disappointed that Lansdowne 2.0 doesn’t address the problems of Lansdowne 1.0 which, among other things, is the wrong product, at the wrong time, in the wrong location and it has lousy access to all forms of transportation;
  • We’re disappointed that at the end of Lansdowne 2.0, it probably won’t address the problems of Lansdowne 1.0 (see above) and we’ll need Lansdowne 3.0 that will have the same ‘success’ as 1.0 and 2.0. How do we know this? Because every big project the city undertakes turns to garbage … even garbage service (that said, rat service appears to be alive and well);
  • We’re disappointed about pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into Lansdowne but getting next to zippo back. That’s the extent of the Lansdowne partnership (partnership?) And the city entered into the “partnership” knowingly and with its eyes wide open;
  • We’re disappointed about the hideous budget overruns of the new and unnecessary central library such that the overruns are misreported or not reported at all;
  • We’re disappointed that (sorry, Mark Twain) you can’t throw a brick at Ottawa City Hall without hitting someone with interim in their job title:
  • We’re disappointed that the mayor flies to London on the tab of a lobby group;
  • We’re disappointed that the pols at city hall try to distract the media in the public with petty little fluff deflections as the nightmayor (oops, said it again) and Shawarma Town.
  • We’re disappointed that a Bulldog Report Card showed 29 categories of city hall endeavor and only four passed;
  • We’re disappointed that there is so much failure at city hall that your fingers get tired typing to list it all;
  • We’re disappointed that because of that fatigue, we can’t continue to list all the things that are wrong at city hall and environs;
  • We’re disappointed that Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and his incompetent city council and woeful city staff (interim and non-interim) can’t figure out what oversight is and if they did, they wouldn’t know what to do with it;
  • We’re disappointed that we could go on forever with this list but we’re trying to save the endangered pixel and make The Bulldog and its pixels environmentally sustainable. Save the pixel;
  • And we’re disappointed with the mayor concerning being disappointed with the term “nightmayor” because he and the rest of city hall are in no position to criticize anyone. Clean up your own appalling nightmare.

So here’s the deal, Your Worship. We’ll stop calling the nightmayor the “nightmayor” when city hall starts doing a good job. Now this could be an impingement on our freedom of speech but we’re confident that this depressing show on Laurier Avenue will never get it right.

But if you do, we’ll celebrate it on Ottawa Shawarma Day.

Happy Shawarma Day, Your Worship.

    Well, thank goodness the rats are happy and thriving. The current councilors can probably all count on their votes at the next municipal election.

    I’m disappointed that the Mayor thinks he has nothing better to do with his time than getting his knickers in a knot over something so ridiculously insignificant as what name people are using for a position that is not necessary and just another attempt at distracting everyone from the real and pressing problems at the City.

    It makes me think of someone getting all worked up about the tomayto/tomahto debate and not acknowledging that people are hungry in the street. Get a grip, Mr. Mayor, and turn your focus to the real problems you have. Surely among the plethora of disasters at city hall, you could identify one that needs your urgent attention more than what is a labelling issue.

    I agree with every word you wrote. I’m disappointed in everything. Also I’m disappointed with the mayor who as far as I’m concerned never got anything
    right since he became mayor. I also remember when this “crap” about searching for a “night mayor” was called “night mayor” and now he is upset about the title? Where was he when it was written “Ottawa is searching for a night mayor” ? and yet he is disappointed in a stupid thing like that? I’m disappointed in everyone who voted him to be mayor. I didn’t. As far as I’m concerned Ottawa needs a “night mayor” like we need all the construction going on at one time all over the city. Ottawa is Ottawa and this person will never make Ottawa like Montreal. Montreal is Montreal and Ottawa is Ottawa and this person will never change it. To think of all the TAX money is being spent on a thing like that. Unbelievable.!!

    Unfortunately our present mayor has brought all this to light,
    Meanwhile the mayor and council that introduced these screw ups to our city, BUT kept it all secret, HAVE SKIPPED OFF WITH THEIR INDEXED PENSIONS …..BLAME FREE

    SAME THING IS GOING TO HAPPEN FEDERALLY
    POLLIVIERE WILL GET ELECTED……AND VERY QUICKLY BLAMED FOR THE MESS AND WILL BE CRUCIFIED.

    AND THE REAL DISTRUCTOR….TRUDEAU….WILL SKIP OFF SCOT FREE WITH NO BLAME OR PUNISHMENT …..AND HIS HUGE INDEXED PPENSION.
