Politics Get Rough For Mark Sutcliffe
So this has been a curious period of political strategy in the office of Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.
First, Ottawa City Hall does a horrible sales job on the need for sprung structures for refugees. In PR terms, the sprung structure took precedence over the need to house people in deep trouble from other lands. The reverse would have been would have been more effective … emphasizing people over tents.
Then city staff released a list of almost every location in Ottawa where sprung structures would go, scaring the public equally across the community … and with the emphasis on the physical rather than the human side of the issue. Then they plopped two refugee spots on the public … one in Barrhaven and one in Kanata.
Now this was curious because those to areas are conservative vote factories of which Sutcliffe is most certainly one.
As well, the politicians and staffers in the city thrust a whopping transit-fare increase on seniors of all people … about nine per cent of whom have severe trouble making ends meet. Now maybe politicians will come to the rescue and drop the gargantuan increases by saying staff did it but those things don’t happen in isolation.
One problem for Sutcliffe on this. Seniors vote more than most and aren’t likely to enjoy paying for a light-rail system with cock-ups in the multi-billion-dollar range and paying a lot more for it.
On the weekend, Sutcliffe then appeared at a sprung structure rally in Centrepointe where liberals reign supreme.
So there you have it. A catastrophic period of politics for Sutcliffe.
The only redeeming characteristic for these questionable moves is that an election is two years away and voters might forget some of this stuff.

We really don’t want voters to forget the Mark Sutcliffe fiasco.
Mark Sutcliffe is CERTAINLY NOT a conservative. Most people in Nepean, Kanata and Barrhaven will not forget!
