What next? Birth control for cockroaches? Hey, how about permanent birth control for Ottawa city councilors.

I must say you’re looking pretty natty today, Mike.

Apparently, it’s not condoms, it’s pills that have a sweet taste the rats love and they gobble them up. They don’t harm the rats so it’s the next generation that’s being exterminated. Meanwhile the current hordes still infest your backyard or your apartment building’s garbage room. Have you seen the video of a garbage truck going south on Fisher Avenue after it picked up the trash at one of the apartment towers north of Baseline on the west side of Fisher (possibly called Fisher Estates)? It was taken by someone behind the truck and recorded literally dozens of rats falling out of the truck. Disgusting is too mild a word for it.

I don’t know the lifespan of a rat but presumably many of the well-fed ones that reside in some areas of the city have a few good years left in them. There are some residents of Sandy Hill who no longer can use their backyards, particularly at night, because of the rats and their friends, the raccoons. While it may be good to know you won’t have this scourge to deal with in ten years or whenever the birth control effect will be felt, that’s cold comfort tonight.

Obviously those who don’t want to see the poor, widdle rats get hurt by any campaign the City might undertake aren’t people living with the infestation. This is not a new issue and it should have been dealt with by now.

Can you withhold the property taxes for the percentage of your domain that is no longer available to you because it’s been taken over by rats? That might help focus Council’s collective minds on the issue.

Really birth control for rats? And they really expect every rat will eat whatever this is. I’m sure there are rats and mice all over not just in one place and are they going all over the city with birth control for rats. What a joke! Also how much is this joke going to cost the people of Ottawa? I have a better idea, gather up all the rats and send them to city hall. Maybe the rats could run city hall better than the mayor and councillors.

What is the reason for this?
