Gloucester-Southgate Councillor Jessica Bradley on transit fare hikes for seniors

‘Preposterous’ is for the original 120-per-cent proposal for senior transit fare increases.

‘Outrageous’ is for the transit commission agreed upon rate of 60 per cent.

Imagine if your property taxes increased by 60 per cent. Would you be happy? A 60-per-cent hike is … well … outrageous.

So it’s good to hear someone calling out this hike for what it is … whatever that is. Putting the poor elderly in jeopardy for a measly $800,000 saving is ridiculous. Or maybe you could call it stupid. No real gain. Horrible political and practical cost.

Gloucester-Southgate. Does that sound familiar? Bradley is carrying on the proud tradition of the late councillor Diane Deans. Were Deans alive today she would call down this fare increase like a dog.

And that is what Bradley is doing now for her ex-boss and mentor.

Good for Bradley.
