Summer Snow Removal Topnotch: THE VOTER

I must say, based on the past six-months’ experience, that Alain Gonthier, the city public works general manager, is absolutely correct and the city’s control of the snow has been nothing short of superlative.

Every street and sidewalk has been completely clear of the white stuff. Would that I could foresee a similar situation lasting over the next six months.

I’d love to know who they talked to that said snow clearing on residential streets is anything other than abysmal. It often takes four or five days for residential streets to see a snowplow and even longer for the snow to actually be removed from the sides of the street. As for sidewalk plows, they can take a week to appear. Walking is difficult and dangerous, especially for children who often can’t see or be seen past the mountains of snow along the roads. Seniors and those who are mobility-impaired have serious problems getting out and often can’t make it to the bus stop to get anywhere.

Anyone who is “generally satisfied” with that must be a snowbird.

I’d like Mr Gonthier’s office to poll residents to find out how happy the general populace is with the names provided to each of the 24 snow plows in the city, rank the names from 1 to 24, and eventually declare a winner. That would be time and money well spent.

Perhaps Tim Tierney and the mayor could get a photo op out of it.

I would like to smoke whatever that man smokes. I am so fed up with nonsense reports from the city and its representatives. Maybe time for a massive group head shake perhaps.
