Time For Transpo’s Amilcar To Go: THE VOTER

When OC Transpo slashes the tens of thousands of hours of bus service in the spring, we’ll need fewer buses, drivers and mechanics and things will right themselves … perhaps.

Remember that the original plan was to cut all those hours in August when the quarterly route adjustments took place. Problem was it was linked to bringing on the new and improved train service which is now hopelessly behind schedule. When the decision was made to hold off on the service cuts, it seems nobody looked at the other side of the equation which is that you need buses, drivers and mechanics to keep the scheduled service on the road.

It’s that planning ahead thing again that OC Transpo keeps getting tripped up on. None of this is rocket science. The company just needs to put in place a connection between the right hand and the left hand.

As the general manager of OC Transpo, Renee Amilcar needs to take responsibility for this and the other major screw-ups at the transit company. She’s not earning her $330,000+ salary and should be heading for the door either voluntarily or with a push.

When she goes, others from the top levels of OC management should be accompanying her out the door. The continual stream of problems should have been stemmed long ago and the whole management team has to be reconsidered and the deadwood excised.



It’s well past time.

    This is from the Ontario Sunshine List. In the three years she’s been here, she’s been given approximately a million dollars by Ottawa residents.

    In 2022, her salary was $330,665 and benefits were $8,010.
    In 2023, the salary was $330,687 with benefits of $7,973.
    The 2024 figures obviously aren’t out yet and, in 2021, she was only here a few months and wouldn’t have earned over $100,000 which is the level that gets you a place on the Sunshine List.

    Take a look around your area and figure out how many houses, yours included, are sending property taxes to the City that are being used solely to pay the head of OC Transpo. Then ask yourself if that’s a value-for-money transaction. Then add the salaries of the other senior managers at the transit company and see how many houses are involved in that exercise. Scary, isn’t it?

    For further context on Amilcar’s salary, she’s second-highest on the list for the City and was only beaten by City Manager Wendy Stephanson whose salary came in at $405,903 for 2023.

    The mayor’s salary for the same period was $198,702 just to give some perspective. They certainly believe in the concept of “the high-priced help” down at City Hall.
