What Plante’s Sprung Structure Agenda? BENN
What was Rideau-Vanier Councillor Stephanie Plante’s agenda for interceding in the Barrhaven sprung structure debate?
Was her primary purpose in producing the public-service announcement really about how contact information can be used for related purposes? As The Voter points out, the references to specific individuals (Heather Tessier, Jan Harder and Lisa McLeod) is curious. The implication being that she is more concerned that people with political affiliations not identical to hers may “misuse” the contact information of the attendees.
Alternatively, perhaps Plante is just worried about the continued politically damaging publicity regarding how the city has botched the temporary housing program from beginning to end. Not to be confused with how the city has mismanaged the Stage 2 LRT construction projects, which should not be ignored just because Stage 1 still isn’t operating to specifications. Or the storm-water storage tunnel in Centretown that periodically discharges sewage into the Ottawa River. Or the overbudget disaster that is the new central library. Or the conflict of interest in having city planners design the distant Tewin subdivision. Given the fiasco that the senior and student transit pass has turned into, perhaps the councillor should focus her attention on what is happening at city hall. Perhaps she should re-acquaint herself with the statutory obligations of council regarding the oversight of staff. Of the need to challenge, on the public record, the quality of the delivery of services to the public.
All of which is to say that perhaps the only person she is distracting with her public service announcement is herself.
Ron Benn, a finance executive, has been a member of the Centrepointe Community Association for the better part of three decades.

Thanks for revisiting, “Or the conflict of interest in having city planners design the distant Tewin subdivision.” It seems to me that council is giving this a pass. One wonders if the Ontario Professional Planners Institute would too. (OPPI membership is a requirement for professionals who wish to practice as a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) in Ontario. RPPs are the only accredited planning professionals recognized across Canada.)
