Where Are The Cars On New Alexandra Bridge Mock-Ups?

Not a whole lot of notice on these National Capital Commission public meetings on the new Alexandra Bridge … four hours.

Not only that but you need to be a detective to find a car on one potential design and are an after-thought on two more.

Cross-border vehicle traffic is a vital part of the economy of the national capital region. This is not something to be trifled with when backups on existing bridge are terrible.

This is a release from the National Capital Commission:

The NCC has a responsibility to build an Alexandra Bridge that serves cars, pedestrians and cyclists, not just its own flights of fancy.

Cars and trucks put food on the table and build homes for families.

Can you find the car on this artist rendering of a new Alexandra Bridge?

The reason for the bridges across the Ottawa river is for the convenience of Quebecers. And I don’t care if it makes their commuting tougher without the bridge. The new bridge design also serves to push for the inter-provincial bridge east of downtown to make the east end suffer. If they want to live on the Quebec side and work in Ottawa, tough…

    Frank,

Perhaps you’re not aware of how many Ontarians cross those bridges every weekday to get to work. The rush hour traffic is definitely not one-way. They are also used to get to recreational opportunities in the Gatineau Hills and the Laurentians as well as cottages in the Pontiac and other points north of Ottawa. There is no parallel to Mont Tremblant within easy driving distance on the Ontario side. Are you saying you’ve never gone up the Gatineau Parkway?
