Yoo-Hoo. Night Mayor? Are You There?
Mathieu Grondin, at last word the Gatineau home-owning Ottawa night mayor, has tweaked the interest of uOttawa professor Evan Potter.
You’ll remember Grondin. He is the person charged with instilling vibrancy into Ottawa’s night life and had a news conference introducing himself but would not take questions. Happy Town News, way-da-go. Imagine the Ottawa Senators doing that. Never.
A big part of making Ottawa a boppin’ place is building a rapport with the media. Maybe he has a rapport with the underground media.
Your agent doesn’t go to the ByWard Market very often, but was there on Thursday. The hub of the national capital nightlife looks like it could use a bath. Each time your agent goes there, it’s worse.
Perhaps the patio patrons don’t like bullets with their white wine and canapes. There are places in Ottawa where your salad with raspberry vinaigrette doesn’t come with a sprinkling of lead.
Now Ottawa wants more entertainment areas. Can a city of a million people support more entertainment … particularly a city with an aging demographic? Just how fun can Ottawans be? There is the garden and the 4K TV.

We don’t know who or how many applied for the position, but he impressed council enough to give him the job. Was he the best candidate or simply the smoothest with some back room support? As of now his results seem rather underwhelming. Think of it as something similar to Sutcliffe’s election.
It would be interesting to see his workplan with (hopefully) some specific actions and goals so we could find out what his actual job entails and what/how/when he’s supposed to deliver.
Of course, this being the City of Ottawa, that information, if it even exists, won’t be forthcoming any time soon.
At the last election we got rid of a nightmare…..then we go and hire another.
He lives across the river….oh great,
Anyone working for the city SHOULD LIVE IN THE CITY
Anyone working for the province , SHOULD LIVE IN THE PROVINCE.
HOW BE YOU
CLEAN UP OR TEAR DOWN THE RUNDOWN BUILDINGS………
DO LAWN AND GARDEN MAINTENANCE…
HELP THE HOMELESS
GET HELP FOR THE DRUG ADDICTS
AND GENERALLY JUST CLEAN UP THE CITY
I live in a subdivision and even here it is bad…….we have been here 5 years and no one does property maintenance…looks like H××L…….weeds weeds, weeds and often 3 ft high…….
EVEN A LAW DEMANDING MAINTENENCE OF THE BUILDING YOU OWN OR LIVE IN ……cut the lawns…..would make a difference to appearance and therefore more welcoming to people
No one wants to go to a place that looks like a slum for their entertainment.
Perhaps we spent TTTTOOOOOO much money on a useless not needed, flawed LRT, so we lack money for basics to run the city.
NIGHT LIFE MIGHT BE BETTER IF THE PLACE DIDN’T LOOK SO SHABBY AND WAS SAFE……LIKE HAVING A POLICE PRESENCE.
MUST ADMIT THE LAST TIME I WAS TO CENTRAL OTTAWA, I COULDN’T BELIEVE THE PLACE…….over the last 20 years it has really become a disgrace.
The Night Mayor’s initial task should be to power wash the northeast entrance of the Parkade adjacent to the buffet restaurant using bleach. This is to ensure that the area is free from odors that patrons would not appreciate before dining.
