LANSDOWNE: Watson Must Be Ecstatic: THE VOTER

Former mayor Jim Watson must be jumping up and down with glee.

The Aberdeen Pavilion has roof and structural damage.

Back when Watson was at the old city of Ottawa, he wanted to knock down the Cattle Castle, history be damned.

He was forced to retain it but not to maintain it. Had the roof work been done then, it would have been a lot cheaper and damage to the building would have been averted.

That didn’t happen because Watson’s hope was always that, if it deteriorated enough, the heritage advocates and the public who loved the building wouldn’t be able to stop a demolition.

Let’s hope Watson continues not to get his way.
