Sudds Sends Sutcliffe A Polite No On Money
Former Kanata North councillor and now cabinet minister for Ottawa Jenna Sudds has told Mayor Mark Sutcliffe in an obtuse way that the City of Ottawa’s plea for more money from the federal government is a non-starter.
Thisi from X:
Sudds knows the city and is learning the ropes in the senior part of the federal government. She is in a unique position to know what the situation in Ottawa is, having been a councillor.
Sudds has put Sutcliffe in his place and “fairness” does not include paying for reckless project management, fanciful budgeting and gruesome overruns on major city projects.
It’s not the job of the feds to bail out the city for its incompetence and extravagance.
So the answer from Sudds and the feds is … no Mark Sutcliffe. Live within your means.

Cancel Landsdowne 2? and save the 400 million and whatever else is hidden? Sell the Hubley electric bus at a loss but still save from the capital expenditure. Be realistic about LRT and finish part two with a wait period to see how well the system works before moving on thus deferring more capital cost. All to save the taxpayer of Ottawa from a 15 to 20% tax increase.
Well put, Ken. As my wife and I approach retirement, I have come to realize that the Ferrari I’d love to have available in my garage is never going to appear there unless by magic.
Bruce. One of my neighbours was a high-ranking member of the Ottawa Roman Catholic School Board. He was once asked how the RC school board was able to do such a good job of keeping their spending under control. His answer was “We act as if we’re a family who would like to own a cottage, a boat, purchase a new car, etc. We prioritize our wants and purchase what we can afford or save until we can afford to buy”. A simple strategy I’m sure all Bulldog readers deploy. Why the city of Ottawa hasn’t figured this out is beyond my comprehension.
While I am supportive of the measured response from MP Sudds, I do ask myself how many “we don’t have any way of paying for this’ projects and programs that she voted for as a member in good standing of the Watson Club during her short stay on city council.
In short, hypocrisy is never a good look.
She saved me the effort of writing my MP to stop them (Feds) from the idea of throwing good federal money at a massive miss-manager of funds.
After the Lansdowne fiasco with this council, it was evident this mayor, and those voting to spend our money on this disaster, need to consider this first:
It still can be cancelled and we can do any repairs and improvements on Lansdowne saving about $400 – $450 Million!
To not do so will cement the evidence that they are catering to OSEG billionaires and do not care about the hard working citizens they represent.
