Nightlife Committee Movin’ Real Slow: MULVIHILL
It doesn’t get any better than this. Really.
A nightlife council will soon be appointed to assist the City of Ottawa’s nightlife commissioner.
The Ottawa Nightlife Economy Action Plan lends its attention to leisure, live entertainment and cultural activities during the 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and recently received the services of a nightlife commissioner. Mathieu Grondin, will head a committee of six to 12 volunteers who will mingle with the nightlife and related action in the market area as business owners, workers or residents. Who would better know?
Volunteer means freely donating one’s time and services and meeting in-person at least four times per year.
It sure is taking a long time to get this night commissioner thing up and running identifying the short-comings and pitfalls of the downtown area. It’s difficult to rationalize the city having hired a night commissioner from Montreal when perhaps someone actually living in Ottawa might already have a good idea of what is lacking. In any event, Grondin apparently met with stakeholders over the summer months. The intention is to appoint a nightlife council by year end.
Does it actually take this long to gather informed residents, discuss the issues at play and create a plan to revitalize the downtown core? Why, yes. Yes it does.
And people wonder why things rarely get done in this city.
