City Considers Lansdowne Off-Ramp: BROWN

Rideau-Jock Councillor David Brown says the city is considering a Lansdowne 2.0 off-ramp due to its difficult fiscal situation at present.

This is a response to a note from Ottawa resident Douglas Arnold:

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the suggestion. My understanding is that the City is
considering a Lansdowne 2.0 off-ramp given the agile audit provided by
the AG; we have at least one more decision gate in 2025 before the
“green light” is given to the 2.0 plan. We will have a better sense of
the direction on this once the budget is released, but I will be sure to
share more information as soon as I have it.

Regarding Tewin, I certainly agree that it seems like a major waste of
development charge dollars. Unfortunately, if the City was to remove
Tewin from the urban boundary, it is unlikely that this would be
supported through a Tribunal hearing. The last Council gave permission
for Tewin to advance, if the City were to revoke that permission, it
would have to provide evidence that the lands are not suitable for
housing development beyond simply the high cost to taxpayers. I did ask
the City’s Legal Service Department about this and this was the feedback
I received. If there is an opportunity to rethink the development
(without getting the City into costly legal trouble) I’d certainly be
interested in exploring it.
