Doug Ford Plays Politics. Leiper Does Not
“(Ontario Premier Doug) Ford’s bike lane legislation is cynical and trades in perceptions that are easily manipulated for political gain.”
Kitchissippi councillor and planning committee czar Jeff Leiper
on the province putting restrictions on bike lanes
I’m shocked. Shocked. There’s politics going on at Ottawa Hall. Shocked.
Why I’m even more shocked that Leiper might be playing politics. Ford, oh sure. The premier plays politics because Leiper doesn’t agree with him.
But Leiper? Why never.
Politics being played in the virgin confines of Ottawa City Hall? Never. Politics in a house of politics? Oh, the humanity.
Yes, it’s only Ford who plays politics. Leiper? He would never sully himself with politics.

Eenie, meenie, chili beanie. Looking 30 years down the road, Doug Ford will be out of politics and Jeff Leiper will still be sitting at the city of Ottawa council table because being elected to Ottawa city council is a job for life. The funny thing is Leiper will be cycling to work on a three-wheeler, taking up more space on the roadways and moving slower than ever. Herr czar indeed.
Jeff Leiper has already announced this is his last term. If fact he said this when running last time.
Thank you, Closely. Not being a constituent in the Kitchissippi voting district I was unaware he was going to step down. Maybe he can use his remaining time in office to lobby for a max 3-terms of service for city council members.
2-term, 3-term of service at Ottawa City Hall is the worst campaign promise. It’s a promise usually never kept and when the promise is kept you pull a Steve Desroches take a few years off and then come back. He couldn’t find an easier job, opportunistic comes to mind.
