STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF FORMER CITY COUNCILLOR DIANE DEANS
_________________________
It is with great sadness that Diane Deans’ husband, Ron Richards, daughter, Megan McGovern and grandson, Evan, announce her passing on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.
Diane died peacefully surrounded by family following a 5-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Despite her diagnosis, Diane continued to live every day to its fullest with a fighting spirit, unwavering tenacity, courage and compassion.
She served as an Ottawa City Councillor for 28 years and, even after her diagnosis, Diane continued to fight for issues of importance to Ottawa residents and leaving an indelible mark on countless people’s lives.
“We have heard from hundreds of people who have shared their stories of the incredible impact my mom had on their lives. My mom was my role model but also a role model for so many other girls and women, demonstrating that no dream is beyond reach, ” Megan said.
A Celebration of Diane’s life will take place on Saturday, May 25th, beginning at 2 pm at the Infinity Convention Centre, located at 2901 Gifford Drive in Ottawa, followed by a reception. The celebration is open to anyone who wishes to attend and celebrate her life.
Books of condolence will be located at Ottawa City Hall and the Greenboro Community Centre on May 21, 22 and 23rd for those who wish to convey their thoughts. People are also invited to share their condolences by email to: diane.deans01@gmail.com
