Group Considers Complaint Against Leiper

This is a message from the city-wide community group Your Applewood Acres (And Beyond) Neighbours:

We’re getting questions from list members about whether or not they should file a complaint to the city integrity commissioner about the concluding comment made by Kitchissippi councillor and committee chairman Jeff Leiper at the last planning committee meeting (and the facial reactions — smiles — of some councillors), which many found to be dismissive in tone etc.

While the final ruling may not be what anyone would hope for, filing an integrity complaint might offer an “at least I tried to do something to change things” feeling and show Ottawa City Hall that people actually care about how citizens are being treated.

And by way of reminder, below is information about an integrity commissioner complaint filed last September after another uncomfortable committee meeting dealing with the purchase of the Diocese site and potential future use of the site, and specifically discomfort with questions/comments made by Beacon Hill – Cyrville Councillor Tierney to a resident appearing before the committee, as well as what many residents found to be dismissive and disrespectful facial expressions by Rideau-Vanier Councillor Stéphanie Plante towards other delegates.

In the end, the Commissioner concluded that no investigation was needed as “…the actions and behaviour during the meeting did not establish that they (Tierney/Plante) were unwilling to listen to the various public delegates viewpoints…”
