Police Issue ‘Clarification’ Of Earlier Statements
This is a release from the Ottawa Police Service forwarded to The Bulldog by the City of Ottawa at his website’s request:
Clarification of an Ottawa Police statement to the Police Board and City Council from earlier this week
(Ottawa)—While Ottawa Police were working with By-law throughout the Family Day Weekend all tickets issued to the Convoy demonstrators on the weekend were issued by police. By-law did not issue any tickets related to demonstrations as people complied with By-law requests.
The tickets and offences issued by police were:
- Driving while suspended
- Operating a vehicle with no insurance
- Fail to surrender driving permit
- Driving a motor vehicle with no currently validated permit.
- Parking infraction
- Excessive noise
- Driving the wrong way on one-way traffic
- There was also one tow in relation to an unplated vehicle parked on the highway
No tickets were issued to Pro-Palestinian demonstrators over the weekend.
On Saturday evening, Ottawa Police and City By-law attended for complaints of fireworks at Queen and Kent Streets. The crowd there was volatile and police chose to deescalate the situation and encouraged the group to leave. The crowd complied. Police asked By-law not to issue tickets at that time to assist with de-escalation.
There is an ongoing investigation by By-law into that matter.
