Change Ottawa City Hall’s Ridiculous Culture: BENN
What has been reported in The Bulldog about the founder of property developer Katasa should concern everyone at Ottawa City Hall.
That none of this information is new should be worrisome. It is indicative of the poor due diligence processes at city hall. As Bulldog editor Ken Gray pointed out, what was reported in this publication was the result of a five-minute internet search. Did anyone who reports to work at city hall even think of doing an internet search? Anyone?
There is an old adage about one being known by the company they keep. This implies a choice. By temporarily accepting this ex gratia contribution of $300,000, the city will be choosing to add further evidence to the long list of exhibits regarding its floundering reputation.
A reputation of mismanaging a multi-billion-dollar LRT project. Of approving the award of a contract regarding the expansion of the Trillium Line to a proponent that failed to meet the technical requirements. Not once, but twice. Of sole sourcing, not once, but again, twice, the soon-to-be-nearly-three-quarters-of-a-billion-dollar redevelopment of what some city officials have referred to as a crown jewel, notably Lansdowne.
There is no time like the present to take corrective action. Over to you Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.
Ron Benn, a finance executive, has been a member of the Centrepointe Community Association for the better part of three decades.

I hope the proposed (second) evaluation of this issue by the integrity commissioner will take a deeper look at developer influence at City Hall. And perhaps even a look at the potential conflict of interest with the developer/city (planning) partnership at Lansdowne?
