Ottawa Electric Bus Stranded On Iris Street
Iris Street with a broken down electric bus.
Let’s hope this is not how all this unfolds.
Saturday around 2 p.m., OC Transpo was trying to fix or tow a 100-per-cent electric vehicle on Iris Street.
Ottawa has $1 billion of electric buses coming using money borrowed from the federal government.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
The temperature was -8 C.

The Who’s Magic Bus appears much more reliable.

Well tested…just like the LRT
I wonder if they’re planning to convert their tow-truck fleet to electric. That could prove interesting.
good one k
I’m just waiting for the memo to the Mayor and council on the root cause of this issue.

Seems like a certain political persuasion pushed electric vehicles. Their mental acuity couldn’t comprehend and the stubbornness that they have within has caused this. I am only a college graduate but even I knew these things wouldn’t work in the winter.
Anderson, I will say up front that I have no mechanical, technical or electrical background, but I support OC Transpo’s move to electric buses. In Oslo, Norway, the bus company Ruter states that they cancelled on average, between 50 and 100 departures, out of more than 4,000 daily departures, for a few days — and yet these incidents were blown out of proportion by various alarmists. The company has explained that they’re making sure that their buses are sufficiently charged or reassigned to shorter routes to eliminate these malfunctions. I’m sure diesel buses also break down, but people don’t jump all over this because they don’t see this as a threat to the status quo. The same thing is happening with the criticism of electric cars. Big Oil is trying to spread misinformation to protect its market share.

I will need a new car soon. I’m not going electric because the range is not long enough and charging takes too long.
When they make them better, i will buy one.
cheers

Come on Bulldog we need to cut the electric buses a little slack, let’s talk about the times they worked fine… they did make it to Iris without breaking down.
Kosmo,
Now, don’t jump to conclusions about how far this bus has travelled! There’s a bus garage on Queensview east of Pinecrest and just north of the Queensway. It’s not clear exactly where on Iris the bus is but Iris runs from Pinecrest just south of the Queensway to Navaho which isn’t really very far. I don’t know if they house electric buses at that particular garage but, if that was its starting point, it may not have been very far from home.
