Ivison Leaves National Post For Costa Rica
Canada has lost another journalism institution.
Ran into columnist John Ivison Friday at Larrimac Golf and Tennis Club in Chelsea hours after he left the National Post for the last time.
The professional Scotsman, a very nice fellow, looked very much like he was ready for the British Open and very happy, to boot.
Ivison is following his diplomat wife to Costa Rica and hopes to freelance a bit from down there. And of course the staff and management here at Bulldog World Headquarters wish Ivison all the best. He is very good at what he does but that’s no news to National Post readers.
Canadian Journalism Has Been Devastated
Your agent tried to convince him to stay to no avail. He’s OK with leaving the vague delights of the Gatineau Hills in winter for the beaches of Latin America.
Journalism is not replacing the likes of Ivison. It is hiring contract workers fresh from J-school at slave-labour wages. Need journalism job … will work cheap. That said, if you want to meet new journalism graduates, you can find them toiling in the lumber section at Home Depot or formulating posh coffees at Starbucks.
Soon there will be no one left … except maybe The Bulldog.
God knows what it will take to pry this puppy from this global epicentre of world news.

Thou shalt not speak, even in jest, of such an eventuality! It must not come to pass that you depart this venue. What would we do without you? Perish the thought!
Besides, Costa Rica’s weather isn’t pleasant this time of year!
Voter:
God bless ya.
Still I could hammer back a couple of scotches with the Scotsman and I bet the Central American weather looks a whole lot better.
cheers
